what exactly do having ports in your boxes do? i dont know much about systems, but i am looking at a Audiobahn 10" and i want to build a custom Fiberglass box, and i was wondering what would a ported box sound like compaired to a Sealed box.

ported it more of a deep bass sound but is not as accurate while the sealed box isnt as deep(like low notes) but is more accurate as far as playing all your bass notes.

ported boxes are used to get louder and they are able to get alot lower. if its your first fiberglass box i wouldnt suggest makeing it a ported one because they are fairly difficult to do when its fiberglass. and are you set on the audiobahn sub? because those are pretty low line subs to use.

You will also loose a good deal of "tightness" in you sub with a ported box. I've never been a fan of ported enclosures.

if you make a ported box right and use the right port you can still have tightness but not quite as much as a sealed.

Did I not just say that?

no u didnt you just said you will loose it but on some subs you couldnt notice the difference and some subs cant go in a ported box and some cant go in a sealed box. it all depends on the subs.

I'd completely argue against that. Given the same the sub, changing between a ported box and a sealed box, you will notice a difference reguardless of the subs design. You're brining up a completely differnt argument now.
