AMP
i asked some1 who knows there sh it, he said infinity is what most people use because it has an rms of 111watts to each speaker. thats plenty plus getting it new on ebay for 200 isnt bad at all, thats half of what i want to spend... also how does infinity have poor specs show me some proof on that because every site i go to has great ratings on this amp.
That amp is junk, does not produce 111 watts of power, and has a dustortion rating that will definately make a dufference in your system. It will function well only i you keep it from about 1/2 to 2/3 power, as the distortion will be much lower. You may not hear it, but your speakers will. Over-power does not kill speakers, distortion does. This actually works fine for you since most speakers (co-ax) cannot take more than about 60 watts anyway. Seperates can take more, but still not much more than 100 watts for most speakers that the average Joe can afford. I run a store for the largest car audio shop in New Orleans and can personally tell you that the TDH can drastically effect the longevitiy of a speaker. For your money, I would recommend Eclipse EA4000, 4 channel amp, or the MRV-F340 from alpine. Both are top quality and fit within your budget.
By the way, which radio (pioneer model) did you buy. Any thing under their DEH-P460MP is a waste of your money when it comes to adding amplifiers. Unfortunatel, infinity has become a lot like BOSE, they sell their products mostly by brand recognition and not by quality. Oh, they still make good equipment, but only on their high dollar lines. Several years ago, Infinity was terrific, but they have recently succumb to the ghetto rating MAX power system, which states you put the MAX power rating on the amp, with ton's of distortion, and you sell a bunch of overpriced product to people who don't know the difference.
A new rating standard has been adopted by major manufacturers of car audio to rate amplifiers equally. Thisis the CEA-2006 rating standard. Any amp worth a damn will have an emblem on it saying that it is CEA-2006 compliant. Also any amp with more than a .05% THD rating (for highs not bass) is junk. Lots of power doesn't make a good system, clean power makes a good system.
Being in the industry, I have the option of any brand or make amp I want at a considerable discount.. For my own vehicles, I use nothing except JL Audio.
I have noticed that Infinity has lost alot of that superb quality and performance they had a few years back. Im sure someone will disagree with me on this how about an MTX 3404? I have the birth certificate for our showroom piece and it reads 109x4@2ohm and .04% THD. And im sorry to say this dude but Professionally Installed and Circuit City never has or will be a factual statement. And F00 if you have access to any and every brand why would you be using JL Audio. They are no better than MTX, Memphis, Kicker, Orion or any other "High-end/Popular" Brands. Certainly you would be using stuff like RE, E. Designs, ARC, Hifonics, Cadence, ID? Unless you are Will Castro and have your own tv show and get paid by JL to make young uneducated kids think JL is the end all be all in car audio. Not that JL is a bad brand but they are far from the top.
sieght i would have to agree with you here that the mtx would be alot better choice. and for the reviews on CC they edit all of them i did a review on the amp and i went back and looked at it and they re rated it and changed my words so it looks like 17 people could be wrong. you can put 300 watts of clean power to a comp set rated at 150 watts if your no what your doing or your can blow 100 watt speakers with 17watts. and pretty much anything sold at CC or Best buy is sub par and for people who dont know very much if anything about car audio.
JL Audio's amplifiers rate in at .03% THD which for the money is an industry best. Their W7 series subwoofer is still considered as the premier sounds quality sub in car audio. ( if it was not the best, then every sub company in the world would not be trying to say "mine is better" for the last 2 years). Jl's ZR series components are probably the best balanced setup in the industry also. Boston Acoustics does have their Z line, however they need a large amount of power (125Watts per speaker) to perform properly (not to mention a huge crossover which make them a pain to install), and I don't have the room for the JL 450/4 amp in my trunk, so the ZR's were the obvious next best choice. As for Focal, and the others mentioned, I have never really been impressed by their product. Difficult to mount and balanced performance are key. JL's entry level line (TR series) actually sounds better than focal's top product. Don't take my word for it, they actually won best sound quality at the SEMA show 2 or 3 years ago, when they first came out, and that was against opponents as high as Alpine's F1 status line ($3k as set for seperated, and custom install is a must with a 2 1/2" tweeter). All things considered, JL actually does have the best product line on the market. And they did not pay me for that, in fact. JL does not sponser privately owned vehicles (only company show cars), so I had to pay for my setup. And other companies did offer me free equipment if I plugged their product.
JL has pretty good products but to say they have the best is a very bold statement. look at zapcos specs if you want to see an amp blow JL's out of the water. JL has some good subs but their is usually something just as good if not better. the new XXX from RE will kill the W7. DLS has amps that are better than JL and alot of them are Cheaper the JL 1000/1 is a 1000 bucks and the DLS A6 is a 1200 watt amp that puts out more power than that and is supper clean for 650 bucks. and DLS has been one of the Top SQ competitors world wide for years now and takes a top place in more than one catagory at every event.
Sinister and I with an agreement? Who would've thought? The XXX is definatly one better than the Dub7, The new Tumult without even hearing it yet I can definatly say it will be far better than the W7. Fantastic specs and Adire engineering as well, can't beat that. Hell the Brahma comes close to what a W7 is and their only $450. Zapco is one I left out, you can never say anything bad about Zapco. They are indefinatly some of the best amplifiers out there.
