All outputs for DLS amplifiers are measured at <.1%THD, which isn't bad, but it does take it out of the same class as JL and Zapco. Zapco is great product, but it lacks the versitility of JL's Absolute Symmetry system. Zapco's flagship 4-channel, the 1000.4 is a great amplifier, even rates better than the 300/4 and 450/4, but it is way more power than I will ever need, or should ever need for a set of component speakers. I just didn't see the point is spending money for power i'm not going to use. That and the overall length of the amp make it an unreasonable choice for the allready compact trunk of Mustang Conv. I would have no place to put an amp that size. The 300/4 and 500/1 fit very nicely on the floor of the mustang trunk, and still leave room for caps and a box.
JL had the right fit, the right power, and the high quality that i needed.

DLS underrate their amps to be actually better than they say they are. they are in the same category as zapco and all the other top end companys. and JL has good stuff its just not the top of the line stuff. my bravox comps are alot better than JLs XR series comps and the JLs couldnt take the power from a 75watt DLS amp which actually produces about 125 because they under rate them and they are very reasonable in price actually much better than JL.

JL has pretty good products but to say they have the best is a very bold statement. look at zapcos specs if you want to see an amp blow JL's out of the water. JL has some good subs but their is usually something just as good if not better. the new XXX from RE will kill the W7. DLS has amps that are better than JL and alot of them are Cheaper the JL 1000/1 is a 1000 bucks and the DLS A6 is a 1200 watt amp that puts out more power than that and is supper clean for 650 bucks. and DLS has been one of the Top SQ competitors world wide for years now and takes a top place in more than one catagory at every event.

"The people at Best Buy said this sub was the best so I bought it."
Another thing, i'm using the new ZR components, not the xr's and 125watts is more power than anyone should every need for highs in as small a space as a car.

Considering Best Buy doesn't sell this brand, that's pretty funny.

It's almost pointless to suggest such brands to these people as they do not have the desire/know-how to employ such equipment. If you get a Zapco or Xtant or some ****, you need a good head unit, and good components, and sealed enclosures, and etc etc etc. I'm guessing about .1% of the people on here care that much. I think I spent abot 2200 dollars just to get my two front components working OUTSIDE of enclousures. This kid is talking about a $300 Infinity amp.
It doesn't matter what someone says sounds good, It is so important to go and listen to as many different brands of equipment as possible, I know that is not possible for some, I must have listened to 20 different sets of speakers, amps, headunits. It is what sounds good to you. I was lucky one of the places I went the owner was installing a system in a mustang and got to listen, and see what I liked and didn't. Obviously equipment does have something to do with it but your own ear is the most important.

my box and sub
I'll admit it, the XXX is a louder sub than the W7, it better be considering that the 12w7 is rated for 750watts RMS, and anything more than 1200 voids your warranty. Meanwhile the RE XXX boasts 8500watts RMS. So while you out buying alternators and batteries for you car, I'll be pocketing the money toward speed parts. Also, JL as a company does not consider their product to be for SPL use. It is all designed for sound quality, without being something that a second mortgage must be taken out on to purchase. Your compairing a small block ford to an alcahol burning, blown, sprayed, Siameese bored drag motor. Now which one is realistic.
As for the above picture, I'd love to see someone fit something like that into the trunk of a convertible Mustang.
My 10"W7 fits great into their with only 500 watts needed to get everything out of it.
Prior to this woofer, I preferred the Eclipse titanium series for sound quality, but the cone area was too small. JL was the first company to solve the cone problem so that you didn't have a 12" sub with an 8" cone bcause of the size of the surround, and they have the patent on it. The only other sub which has been able to do this is the Alpine Type X series, with their surround that is ridged to expand.
I never said that JL had the loudest sub on the market. I said that it is the best sounding sub.And with small space and without a thirst for power, untill someone comes out with something more efficient that can still produce that level of quality, i'm sticking with it.
