Default Opinions on this system...

Car is a 2004 Mustang GT

Head Unit: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PfewfEq...0&I=500CDA9847
Amp: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PfewfEq...0&I=500MRPF240 OR http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PfewfEq...0&I=500MRPM350
Subs: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PfewfEq...0&I=500SWE1042
Misc.: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PfewfEq...p?I=500KCA420I

Notes: I'm not sure what kind of amp I want- either a two-channel or a mono but I'm not sure what the difference is. I want to run 2 of the above subs so I don't think I'll need a multi-channel. I know I will also need the wiring stuff as well as the head unit adaptor. I am also planning on retaining my stock speakers, will this pose a problem?

The 9847 is a good choice it has room left for expansion, iPod ready, sat radio ready, etc. However I have recently learned from purchasing one that they are a pain in the ****1NG *** to navigate through. that is if you have one of the models that has any options on it once so ever. but anyway they put out good sound. Those subs will basically put out the low end your speakers aren't but there not going to do any serious bass work. Maybe thats all your looking for though, and that amp with those subs will be ok, im referring to the M350, the mono.

I would go with a rockford amp, its about the only good thing they make. You can pick a 1000 wat mono rockford amp for around 300$. Also go with sum subs with a high rms and high peak power. Spend the money on one nice sub then a couple ok ones. If you wnat bass go with sub audiobahns if you wnat bass and sound go with JL's...

I forgot to ask if this head unit and everything else will work ok since I currently have the Mach stereo system. However it's not the 460 or 1000, at least it doesn't have those numbers. I ask because I remember reading some posts about people having trouble with aftermarket systems if their car cam stock with the Mach. So will I still be able to retain my stock speakers?

Also, what's the difference between mono amp and a two-channel? What is better and what do I want?

You can use the stock unit if you want but your bass will basically have no presence at all. No body to it. You'll be looking at a line out convertor. Take the extra time to get the money and replace your head unit. Also get a head unit that has front, rear and sub pre-outs. Then ask your dealer for the adaptor piece that will allow you to basically run the sound through your mach amps for the coaxial speakers and separate your sub output. Two channel and mono, the differance is a stereo signal and a mono signal, the mono is used because bass in a mono signal and in a stereo have very few differences real audiophiles will use 2 channels to power their subs but the advantage to mono blocks is that the run lower temperatures, and they are cheaper dollar per watt wise. Alot of times you'll see a mono that has 2 outputs some people ask why it has that when it's only one channel, because it makes it easier for people to wire and gives you more options to wire.

So I am able to use my stock amps with 2 10" subs? Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like I will be going with a nice mono amp, alpine HU, and 2 alpine 10" subs and I will keep my stock mach speakers. Should I be looking in the $200-$300 range for amps? Also, if I run an amp for my subs, do I keep my stock amps for the speakers. Sorry this stuff is just kind of confusing to me. Thanks for the help.

No, theres an adaptor piece that will look like this then the rca preouts on the deck you'll connect to one side and the harness piece will run to your 460 amps and power your full range speakers, your front and rears. You'll need to run the sub pre-outs to the subwoofer amplifier, the mono. If you want to stick with the 10" type-E woofers then yes anywhere between $250-350 will be the price you should be looking around for.
