Ditching the mach 460... need opinions
Hello all,
Just got an 02 GT a few days ago, w/ the mach 460 sound setup. Not all that bad, for a stock system, but I really LOVE the headunit in my old ride, and I'm looking to transplant it; but have a few questions.
I could probably chop up some RCA cables to connect into the factory amp, but I really don't feel like screwing with that, so at this point, I'm fairly certain I'll just dump the factory amps entirely. This does bring up some interesting questions, however.
Does anyone know what the ratings on the stock speakers are? They will be going away eventually, but for now, they'll be staying. Can they handle 50W without any major issues? Can they run @ 2 ohms?
I've got an old (crappy) 50X4 amp laying around, and I figure I can run the door speakers and tweeters in series. Has anyone tried this?
Does anyone make a harness to connect to the factory amp plug? (to patch in to the factory speaker wiring) Like, a plastic plug that I can plug into the factory amp harness, with speaker leads I can wire up to the new amp?
How have others done their Mach 460 bypass? Am I missing anything obvious?
Thanks for any advise you can give

How are you going to crossover your tweeters so you don't destroy them?
I'm sure the full range speakers can handle a decent amount of power for now. Just don't crank on it all the time.
Why would you want to run them at two ohms?

hrmm, hadn't thought about the crossover. Yea, that would probably be good
I'm sure I can pick up a couple of passive crossovers cheap
As far as the resistance, wouldn't that be necessary to run 4 speakers with 2 amp channels? ie: run the left door speaker and left tweeter in series with the front left amp channel

arrgh, just read up on my high school physics...
I'm not entirely sure what the resistance is on the factory tweeters/door speakers, but I'm thinking they're probably 4 or 8 ohms. If that's the case, I can wire 2 speakers to 1 amp channel in series (parallel is what I was thinking of earlier) and end up with 8 or 16 ohms total resistance. I would only get 25W/Speaker, but at least I wouldn't fry the amp
In any case, I forsee a new amp/speakers in the future, so it doesn't have to be great atm

Sorry to jump in without help about your project, but do you have any special plans for the Mach 460 Headunit? I am trying to locate one that works properly, because my volume sometimes does not work.
Thanks and good luck with your project!
