Default Amp venting

i just bought another mustang, and its an 87 notch. in the trunk there is a nice place for a cusom box behind the back seats that im gonna take advantage of and fill it completely. my question is i want to build a fully enclosed box, no windows nothing. i want to put a 10' sub on each side facing the middle, with the amp in the middle of the box. i am only planning on running a 500w mono. do you think i will have overheating issues?

I don't think I quite get what you're trying to do... You want to put the amp inside the box? If that's what you mean... I don't really suggest it... you'd have a terrible time trying to adjust gains, getting RCA's and power wires all in there and sealed up. The other thing about putting the amp in the box... is your amp now has to dissipate that 500w almost 100% into heat all into the same basically insulated chamber... if i remember right an amp is usually 80-90% thermally efficient? and a subwoofer is usually 2-5% thermally efficient? I'm not sure, but it's not a whole lot, whereas the rest is dissipated as heat. It'll work fine on cold days for a while, maybe up to a couple hours. But if you hop in your car on a hot day, chances are you won't be bumping for more than a couple minutes.

If you meant just in the middle of your truck somewhere, yeah it'll be fine. Just try to put a 1/4 inch spacer (rubber hose or rubber washers work good) or something between each screw and the mounting point... helps insulate the amp from vibrations, and helps cooling quite a bit.

Just a suggestion on your system setup, having two subwoofers facing each other isn't quite the best way to set up a system... it will create tons of standing waves/cancellation. If you could angle them towards the back or front it would probably help somewhat

I don't think he meant the amp would be inside the box.

Speakers are acutally probably closer to 1% efficient.

i wanted to make a fully enclosed box with 4 dividers inside. the amp in between the middle 2 and the subs on the outer 2 kinda like this

{ su]b ] amp [ s[ub }

thats supposed to be a box left to right lol... but i will just open up 2 vents and put 1 inlet fan and 1 outlet fan for circulation. sealing everything up will not be a problem. i will use rubber grommets for all the wires and use sealant aroudn every and any openings, the amp would still be enclosed but the fans will keep it cool, kinda like computer fans only 4x4in.

That sounds fine for keeping it cool, but still... how are you going to adjust the gains on the amp?
