Ok. Let's see if anyone else joins in, but I'm ok with it.

What I can do is create a Paypal account for it, and (assuming everyone trusts me to do it), we can just submit whatever we are willing to pay into the account. If we get enough I'll get one, if not I'll send the money back.

Does that sound like a plan, or should we hold off and work on the actual amount needed per person first?

There's one for sale in the classified section for $225.

That's $40 per if we have six.

Don't do it, as you can see in that thread I called him out on the price. I can tell he has deleted his link he originally had on there that had the prices cheaper.

My mistake, I read the thread the other day and that's why I hadn't posted it before.

A club go pro is a pretty cool idea, don't think I've every heard something like that before. Would make the cruises and meets easier to video.

I think the price reductions are associated with GoPros release of the Hero 2 (newer model). Not positive though, nor does it really matter.

I'm not sure what the advantages are of the newer model, but I'll look it up and see if that is even the case. I'm fine with the older one though, but we should probably jump on it if they aren't producing them anymore.

And look at the Carolina Chapter being innovative...who'd have ever thought!

EDIT: After looking at the details, I'd say that is the case. The Hero2 is listed at 299.99, and the Hero is listed at 239.99 (I think, going from memory). The difference in function seems negligible, but the main difference is the quality. Hero2 is 11MP, while the Hero is 5MP. In terms of quality...that's a lot, but I'm not even sure what it represents nowadays (my DroidX has a higher resolution camera than my Digital SLR camera, but the quality of the photos isn't even comparable (SLR wins hands down).

I'll check out a few videos of them to see how significant this difference is. The basic functions of both seem the same in most regards, with a few changes/improvements on the Hero2.

EDIT 2: The main difference that I can find is color quality and low light video, and on each of these the Hero2 is much more realistic and better.

Hero2... We want good quality video. Right?

Edit: Oh, and thanks for looking into the differences.
