critiquing thread
ok so i thought of making this thread in conjunction with jon's sig posting thread. this thread is not to bash or make fun of anybody's work but rather help each other improve on small spots. as you all know you dont notice certain things yourself until someone else points them out to you, so i thought this would give us a chance to fix those things.
now i know some of the sigs posted in the other thread are really old, and we have fixed/improved on spots where we may have messed up, but id like to see them posted anyway. that way, even if the person fixed it along the line through other sigs, new choppers can learn from our previous mistakes. whether its been posted may times in other threads, point out some mistakes that we have made.
i hope this helps everyone out and overall produces good improvment.
ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: as polite as it is, dont post someone else's sig JUST to say how good it is, because thats not the point of the thread, as we already know how great of a job most people do on here.
no matter who it is, whether theyre better than you or not, try and critique them anyway, dont be embarassed or whatnot because youre pointing out someone's mistakes when they make better sigs than you.
ATTN JON: since your the "keep on topic" **** moderator, id appreciate it if you could enforce this and delete any posts that get off topic. thanks.... yes i know this sound strange comin from me[8D]

ok so ill break the ice
this one is for XxX
although ive mentioned it a million times, im just doing it again for the record of this thread. you tend to use the same font all the time and the same brush set. by looking at this sig, i can tell you have improved on making the car work with the border, which looks great.

just as a footnote: i mentioned that he uses the same font eventhough he already knows, just as a note to new choppers to change up their fonts to keep the sigs lookin fresh.

If you would like to know how to blend cars, this is what I've learned to do.
The layer that has the car, hit control+U and move the Hue and Saturation level all the way to the left. This makes the car greyscale.
Do this to all the layers so you are left with a greyscale sig
Make sure the top layer is selected and go to layer>new adjustment layer>color balance, click ok and a new window comes up
In this window you can adjust Shawdow, Midtones, and Highlights - Adjust you sig here to change color, this will make everything blend together.
After you do this if you want, you can go to layer>new adjustment layer>brightness/contrast
Here I would recomend slighty adjusting this sliders to give the sig more of a pop. It mainly brings out the lighter colors.
This is what I learned and which is used by almost everyone I know. Some do a thing called a pixel stretch but that's another topic.

but thats not the point of this thread. its about critiquing specific parts on other people's sigs, not writing up random tutorials that dont have anything to do with anything. thanks for the input anyway, i know it was meant for good reasoning... or something like that.
1981gMachine:

one thing i notice, is you tend to make your sigs, wallpapers, and banners all one color which isnt very eye catching/poping. they look good, but if i was to tweak something, itd be adding more color rather than just using one shade.

That wasn't a random tut. That was explaining a way of make a picture work with the background. You did tell the guy he had problems makeing the car work with the rest of the sig, so I posted something I thought would help.
I understand what you are trying to say, but what I've learned about sig making was to make everything work together. Mind you, you selected one of my first sigs I've ever made.
I believe the ones below have a change of color to them.

If you talk to any good sig maker, s/he will tell you to make everything look good as a whole. I don't use one color for all my sigs, just in the begining I did. Having 15 different colors boldly presented isn't most of the time good looking.

Yea, I never became real good with sigs because I liked a certian style and stuck with it. I wasn't like the 1000's of other people that kept up with the new style and became good at making their own style. I'm a perfectionist, so like everything I do to my car in real life, I try and keep my graphics simple, tasteful, yet still have their own style.
