Best I can come up with is that they're done purely for the shock value.

With the possible exceptions of the Weinermobile(s) and Troy Trepanier's monstrosity, I can't think of anything intentionally built to be less suitable at what a car is supposed to be good at. Even the most outrageously customized 1970's vans were better as vehicles.

Ah the 70's van's **** carpet and "fishbowl" side windows. I sometimes miss the 70's when I was growing up. Not the land yachts for cars but the vans and pickups were cool.

I am currently doing a 70s street rod version of my car. It's been lowered, stock, contemporary moded, and now this.

I remember the 70s. Very few things were actually cool back then. Thank God the decade only lasted 10 years.
