As the King says, "Dammit Bobby".

From the pitting on the top, it looks like they were getting melted for a while. I do not want to throw salt into a wound, but could you not hear the pinging from the detonation?

Pinging happens too fast, and isn't as audible as it is N/A. I've blown a few sets and never heard it once over the turbo and wastegate. Would imagine the blower whine is no different.

Between my 3" exhaust and the blower, I don't know if I would have heard it. In other words, no I didn't hear anything. I went to a machine shop today and they said don't go .060 on the block due to heating issues. He also said the pistons probably broke due to the ring gap being too tight, and detonation. I have a 65 289 block and a buddy has a 67 302 block he said he'd give me. Both standard bores so that will be a good foundation for another build. What is the best year block to use? Yeah, I know a Dart block would be nice. Maybe I should just do a Windsor since I already have a block but I'd be money ahead going 347 again since the crank and rods are still good.

You are right, I have 302 on the brain. It's a 289. I will have to use the 67 between the two since the 289 only has 5 bellhousing bolts.
