Exclamation Mustang and cougar compatibility?

Hey guys,

I've searched on this forum, other forums, google, etc. and I haven't found a surefire answer to this question. I was wondering what compatibility there is between the Mustang Coupe and the Mercury Cougar? Through my limited research I found that the Cougar does have a larger wheel base by a few inches.

The reason I ask all this is because I found a good deal on a 1968 mercury locally. It's set up for a V8, and has a 289 and 3 speed transmission in it. I know those parts can swap over but what about suspension parts? Right now I have an I6 in my 1968 coupe, and want to upgrade. I know all the parts required but what can I use from the cougar? Will there be issues with the rear end fitting, and anything on the front end of the suspension?

So wrapping up what I'm saying, what parts will and will not be interchangeable from a 1968 Mustang Coupe to a 1968 Mercury Cougar?

All advice and help is greatly appreciated!

Yeah it should all swap over and if you want a different dash you can swap that too.

This is exactly what I hoped to hear. I've gotta ask a friend for the number and then I'm gonna be calling a local Classic Ford Dealership and ask the guys there to be sure what's interchangeable. I'll post back here with the info I get from them.

Thanks guys!
