Default 68 overheating issue

I have a 68 conv, automatic, with a 289 engine. Constant overheating issues-It has a 2 core radiator, with some sort of aftermarket fan attached to the front. I am trying to find out if that is the correct setup for the year/engine size, or if it requires a different size radiator, a shroud, etc. help

Are you saying it has an electric pusher fan that has been added? If so, that is not factory. Do you have any pictures? That would help identify what you have.

I just noticed its your first post. Welcome to the forum.

If the fan comes on then its working its probably needs the coolant flushed maybe a new thermostat in it.

Need a little more info to help guide you. Does it run hot when idling? Does it run hot when driving at freeway speeds? Does it run hot in stop and go? Does it vary based on the temperature outside? Has it always run hot or recently changed? Any modifications to the engine? Does the guage show cool and then as it starts run all the way to over hot, regardless of driving or not?

How important is it to you to have it factory stock?

The cooling systems on these cars were fine when they were new, however in my opinion is the weakest link in the car, so as things age, modifications made, etc, the cooling system is where you can first see a problem, however it can be solved...just need more information to trouble shoot it to understand the lowest cost path to what could be causing the problem.
