Default Fun with iphone and "Bosch Light Em' Up App!

This was posted in one of the other forums here, I did a search and the modern Mustang guys were already playing around with it. I thought it was cool. It measures G force (in all directions, for braking and cornering as well), speed, acceleration and uses your GPS signal, car weight info and voodoo magic to make calculations..../shrug.

How accurate is it? I put the link down below, I have it on my facebook. I just have to find a back road where I can open up more. I did this on FT Bragg on one of the back range roads, there were some hills and I shut it down before I was hitting 100mph range.

overview
Max Speed 94.8 MPH
Max Acceleration 0.66 Gs
Peak Power 425 HP
simulated drag strip
60'3.40 @ 22.6 MPH
330'7.43 @ 62.7 MPH
1/8 Mile10.23 @ 90.5 MPH
stepped acceleration (from 0 MPH)
0 - 10 MPH1.64s
0 - 20 MPH2.90s
0 - 30 MPH4.19s
0 - 40 MPH5.01s
0 - 50 MPH5.77s
0 - 60 MPH6.87s
0 - 70 MPH7.90s

well this is very odd ?! it looks liek an exact copy of Bunsentechs "Dynolicious". Have to check on that. quite accurate but not 100% of course.

The important thing to know is that the ipod/iphone has to be mounted fixed in car and be calibrated, otherwise you get completely wrong results.

Musniki:
did you use any horsepower cotrrection or is that 0% (wheels)?

Androids:
check this out:

no idea how good that is, iphone user myself

it's just a bit odd with the numbers
here's a run from may last year. probably one of the best in the year.
0-10mph 0.93s
0-20mph 2.1s
0-30mph 2.86s
0-40mph 4.12s
0-50mph 4.99s
0-60mph 5.97s
0-70mph 7.71s
0-80mph 9.16s

60' 2.84@26.5mph
330 6.70s@64.9mph
1/8m 9.73s (mph readout wrong)

max speed 89mph
mx acc=0.6G
peak horsepower=231HP at wheels which I believe to be about right ?!

I'm wondering, as your numbers are very similar with similar weight car, how come your application ssays 400+HP ????
what happened there, can't be right really ?!

I can see that you probably did a lot of wheelspinning in first ruining your times, but for example:
0 - 40 MPH5.01s
0 - 50 MPH5.77s
that's 0.76s between 40and 50mph, I needed 87. but is that really the difference of 150HP, don't know ...
below in picture again the wrong mph for the 1.8 mile. must be some calculation mistake. should be 84-ish

I had it in a fixed position and a passenger was holding it in place.

I put down 15% drive train loss for HP through the app. You can apply from 0-25% drive train loss. I'm thinking real world the motor has 325-350 hp at the wheels. 302 cobra block, performer RPM heads, matching cam, air gap intake, 6AL MSD box, hedman headers.

I think that the app uses a simple method to determine horsepower by calculating distance and wieght to the time it took.

I will tell you, the car is hell of fun to drive. I drove a friends fastback with a 390 in it and it just didn't get up and go like mine.

Looking at your numbers, 231 hp seems real real low.

if your 0-60 time was 6.87 seconds and the ground was level you are probably closer to 210-220 RWHP or you a c4 with tall rearend gears or your car weighs more than 2900 lbs

Mustangftw: data plan? as in some kind of phoen contract?

na, can download for iphone. costs a couple of dollars .. 15$?????
the Bosch version might even be free as stated above

that sounds like a 350HP at engine to me, not at wheels. similar to my setup, or better said what my setup _should_ do.

for drivetrain loss I'd rather use 20% (maybe even 25% when using auto gearbox)

Best thing is to just set that to 0%, so you get wheel torque/HP

iphone has to be calibrated (you can do that in the app settings)
it has to be mounted in car so it can't possibly move (block, shove, clamp ...)
it has to be mounted flat as in the right edge and left edge should not be hanging down. You can tilt the thing so the upper edge goes forward a bit no problem. but not rotated or slanted

then try again :-)

this is the most important bit. even if the numbers are wrong, this way they reproduce meaning the next run should have the same numbers. This is a good way if some tuning actually helped or not (carb changes, ignition timing etc etc etc)

I'll probably put in my new thermostat (i wanted 195 deg, but could only get 190 for an audi ...). I guess this will give a huge power increase because the car always ran best when I had overheating issues ... mad as it sounds, so i'm convinced I'm running too cold (160F) for making peak power
