Default starter help

temp around here has been mid 50's in the day and about teens at night, mustang parked in the garage. problem, every time i start the I6 mustang the starter keeps on going until i rev it for about a minute then it shuts off, what could be the problem? could it be a bad solenoid?

thank you,

I think the starter gear or bendix is hanging up on the flywheel, so the starter won't disengage. If thats the case, continued use like this will damage the flywheel. I'd try a new starter or see if you can get a new gear.

I would say, replace your relay. They get sticky.

so today I jumped the starter wire to the battery wire from the solenoid and the car started fine without any hung ups. I guess its time for a new solenoid.

thank you for the help.

When the starter is hung in the flywheel, it makes one hell of a generator....

Years back my dad had one hang in a 302, he didn't know it and drove about 2 miles.... Yea it killed the starter, but not before burning the battery cable in two and wreaking havoc on the the rest of the electrical system..

Lets see, 12 V to turn the engine 200 rpm, so at 2,000 rpm = 120 Volts....

Bought a new solenoid today and gave it a world, long story short the problem was my ignition switch(it was getting stuck). Help with new thread.
