yes it will be time consuming and with lots of headaches and parts. you might show him some sixes from fordsix website might convince him to keep the six and build it up. there are a wealth of parts to hot up a old six nowadays.

And the way gas prices are looking lately a inline 6 with a overdrive trans would be better on fuel. When i was 14 my step dad dragged home a rusted out 65 impala convertible we worked on it together for almost 4 years then he let the cat out of the bag and told me happy birthday and gave me the keys.I did end up wrecking it a year later calling home to tell him i wrecked it scared me but all he ask was if im ok.

My son is more and more going towards about the I6, but something different. Maybe tri power or even a 2bbl carb. He wants a clifford headers with dual exhaust with side exits. Either we share his mustang or I am getting my own after we fix his up.

thanks for all the inputs...

If you have 10k to spend, do the swap! 2-3k for new V8 disc brake front suspension, 1-2k for rear end w/disc brake swap, you already have the tranny and motor! 1-2k more for miscelanious and your done!!! Great project you can be proud of!

Or something like this, in today's sac Craigslist.

1966 ford mustang 289 v-8 auto runs great. 3rd owner clean title no accidents daily driver ready to go....c code car built in san jose. It has a 289 orig. motor with only 17k.miles with paper work to prove it trans mission has also been redone have plenty of service records..

it also has had work done to the front end so steering is nice and tight no play like most old mustang.does have power steering.has heat has cd player. Engine very strong, transmission shifts great no overheating all gauges work lights work and is reg.untill 2013.

looking to sell so $8000.o.b.o.... not interested in trades.(916)420-3847

If its staying inline 6 i would think hard on swapping the spindles and rear end,Being a 5 lug wheel choices would be endless and having good front disc is nice too.

If I was still restoring the Vintage Mustang, I'd sure enjoy finding, or restoring a 65 66 T Code (6 Cylinder) Crack box 3 Speed -Plain Jane, no frills, bottom of the line-Cheap Mustang.

Yes a long description. But, There are none to be found now,.\ Everyone want, V8, Disc Brakes, Deluxe interior, Etc, ????????

Keep it simple, enjoy the hobby.

I'd be VERY Proud (Even More) to drive into a event in such a Classic I build, , I'd be smilling from ear to ear, pull along side a 67 500 KR and be BROUD!

my 2 cents having done the swap myself. Really helped me to get to know the car and now I feel like I can fix anything on the thing. If you do buy one with the V8 how many of the components would need to be replaced anyway?

BINGO!!!

MANY of the parts that need to swapped out are "wear items" and/or things people swap out anyway, V-8 or not.

There are plenty of good reasons to NOT swap an I-6 out for a V-8, BUT IMO, needing to change the chassis parts really ain't a good one.

There is nothing "hard" about swapping this stuff, I would rather swap the parts 10 times over as to deal with a car with extensive rust damage. It's not that rust damage scares me, because it doesn't, swapping parts is A LOT less time consuming, and usually a lot less expensive.

I admire all of the folks here who have brought back rusty hulks and turned them into great cars, but.....

I would rather build a clean low rust I-6 car into an 8 than to build a ratty original 8.

It is simply a lot less work, a lot cheaper, and faster from start to finish....
