if you have 10k to spend have a look at the turbo barra motors from aus 4.0l Dohc 300+ hp stock and with a simple flash tune 400 hp and its a inline 6 and very different. and it can get to 500 hp on stock parts. and you can get a 6 speed manual for it. should be good on gas and leave v8 wondering what the heck happened

My son was able to buy everything "new" for his 66 I6 to V8 swap except for the spindles, which I understand are available new now.

Worth what he has in it? I doubt it. but that ain't what the car was about. He ended up with essentially a new car for less than 20K, which is about the value of a 30K new car after it leaves the lot......
where or who sells the V8 spindles? that would be great!

after cruising my I6 mustang with my son this weekend and to see how he enjoyed us cruising together in the same car and how he loved the car, I decided to go ahead and us to convert the car to V8 and do some major bonding.

thank you all for the input. we will start the conversion after hot august nights here in reno.

Above from CJ Pony Parts.

Don't have the money or inclination to do the swap but I do love my Clifford Headers and dual exhaust.

Have you tried http://www.dvap.com/ or any mustang junkyard like http://www.mustangbarn.com/ http://www.mustangmasters.com/ http://www.perogie.com/ or the old way find a v8 parts car that is trash for a grand or less take the spindles and rear end and anything else you can use and scrap it.

There is nothing "hard" about swapping this stuff, I would rather swap the parts 10 times over as to deal with a car with extensive rust damage. It's not that rust damage scares me, because it doesn't, swapping parts is A LOT less time consuming, and usually a lot less expensive.

I admire all of the folks here who have brought back rusty hulks and turned them into great cars, but.....

I would rather build a clean low rust I-6 car into an 8 than to build a ratty original 8.

It is simply a lot less work, a lot cheaper, and faster from start to finish....
I couldn't agree more! Unless the I6 car is in awesome shape suspension wise, you need to change most of it anyway. And what fun are 4 lugs? Just changing these out gets you pretty close, lacking radiator and a few other items. GO FOR IT! The bonding experience will be worth it even if you spend a little more than you would like .....
