1966 coupe, Straight swap I6 for 289 with NO MODS?
Hey Mustang Wizards...
I have a question... CAN I switch my I6 200 for a 289 WITHOUT making any other (or major) changes in my Mustang?
I'm not drag racing, just driving.
so...
no suspension changes
no brake changes
no transmission changes
no rear end changes
no front end changes
1966 Coupe
Good 3 speed transmission.
My mechanic says I CAN do this, what say thee?
HAS Anybody out there done this?
Thanks in advance.

Ok..
Why, if I can stop now, would I not be able to stop with a 289? (or 302?) There is only 75 pounds difference between the engines... Wouldn't stopping from 60MPH be durn near the same...
(for the sake of debate, lets not assume that I would be hot rodding around, just because my horsepower doubles...)

Ok, I have noticed that,
The brake switch might technically be a non related modification that is more noticeable with the V8.
Any pointers on how to best (and most affordably) do that brake switch (I am ethically opposed to putting in a Mustang II front end)
Thx

Lots of suppliers out there. Some used parts from a later model Ford which is probably problematic because those parts are hard to find and had a different tapper on the linkage. Lots of post on the board. No need to use a Mustang II front end. We have discs from a 68 on our late 67 with single piston calipers and non power assist.
You also want to make sure you use a dual master cylinder and check the steel brake lines on the rear axle.
