I recently purchased a 66 that shows 30,000 on the odometer. The title is from 1988 and shows 24000. The last time it was registered was 1992 and it sat in the PO's driveway since then. The car is rough but the engine looks new. I am thinking 30,000 is the real mileage but have no way to prove it really. It is a Sprint edition with the console, A/C, Auto, and chrome air cleaner. But it also has the chrome faux side vents. The floors need to be replaced but all the other metal is good and I can only find surface rust. No power steering or brakes My intent was to fix it up myself as a driver. It is red and the original color is Turquoise. My question is with this low mileage would this be a valuable car if fixed up. I think it would take a lot of money to really fix it up and I'm not sure tis worth it. Should I fix it myself and have a nice driver? Thanks for the input.
Also has the blue center hubcapsTrunk is solid with just surface rustvery dirty but the blue of the engine is still good and looking in the breather it is really cleanInterior is probably the worst part. Dash is cut for the radio also
if its really 30k miles...
the belts
dizzy cap
plug wires
plugs(autolite)
would possibly be original still. do they have fomoco stamps on them autolite ?
Since it is a 6 cylinder, it won't be worth what it will take to make it worth something from an investment standpoint. Look at Mecum action prices for similar cars and that will give you an idea what the market is.
So I'm moving forward with refurbishing the car as a driver. The engine started and ran fairly well for sitting so long. I've changed the oil and filter, replaced the starter and battery, cleaned out the fuel system( it needs a new tank and sending unit) flushed the cooling system and I am waiting for the new hoses and thermostat to come in. I guess my next undertaking will be the brake system. The pedal goes to the floor so I will probably go through it completely. Flush it, new hoses and whatever else is bad. I may change the tranny fluid and filter before the brake system though. Slowly I will resurrect it. Photo of the sending unit.
Looks like an easy resto. It's probably not worth much, but it'll make a real nice driver for you. The good thing is because it isn't worth a lot you can do any mods you want to make it a real nice car. And not feel bad about it..
