Incorrect Engine Mounts?
Here are the supposed replacement mounts for my '65 289 (Anchor pt. #'s 2220 and 2221). As you can see, they're obviously not the same as what came off the car. Do you see the two little bent up flanges on the angled pieces at the bottom of the picture? On the old mounts these attached so those little flanges hooked right over the edge of the rubber mount. The bolts on the new ones aren't even close to being in the same location!
BTW, I thought O'Reily's might have gotten them in the wrong box so I ordered a second set. Unfortunately, they're the same.
Please help!

You probably got the wrong mount for a 65. My understanding is that the 66's were taller, but MustangPlus has them as the same. Not the 67 though. Take a look.

That link to me to some brackets that I don't have anything resembling on my car. I just want the correct rubber engine mounts for a '65 289.
Mustnewbe-
So are you saying you had to grind the rubber down on yours?

I have a 1965 2+2 fastback that uses the same mounts you mention (2220 and 21 ???). Yes they are the right ones - at least for my car. 1965 mustangs changes from "early" to "Late" in May of 1965 so there may be an early or late version of motor mounts but I have never been asked for such a differentiation when buying motor mounts for a 1965. 1966 used a completely different motorount as I recall.
The brackets that mount the motor mounts to the frame (the ones in your picture) are NOT corrently interchangable from side to side of the mustang. They will incorrectly mount on either side but the motor position will not be correct. I had to "roll the dice" and guess which went where last time. Maybe I got it right and maybe...
Perhaps someone out here has better info in this. I too would like to know more.

On the early production models, there is a left and a right hand mount. On the later 65 models there is only one for both sides. Take a look at the TexasMustang site to see the difference. Just type in Motor Mount in the search, and 1965 in the year.

Popper you have early 65 mounts. Most auto places don't have enough detail to differentiate. Try asking for 64 Falcon motor mounts.
You can also easily convert to the later 65/66 style (which sporing linked) you would just have to change the frame bracket that bolts the lower tower. The early 65 are a 3 peice design with the angle iron in the middle (like you have) and the later 65 and 66 are a 2 peice setup.

Hello Popper
To Answer your question - Yes - My mounting flanges (different that the rubber mounts) were different and were not interchangeable. They were not bent or damaged. They had different offsets. Wish I could get a picture just to document here.
Speaking of your problem I may have a little help if you speak french or can translate... Pictures are worth a thousand words tho - go here

and look at the different motor mount situations for '66. You are apparently not alone!!!
Now I have a qusestion for everyone. The anchor 2221 and 22 mounts that are pictured are for what configureation of 64 or 65 mustang? Why is poppers' situation different?

OK, I know you guys are sick of me talking about these motor mounts. But this is keeping me from getting my engine back in so please bear with me.
I gather from the feedback that I have the early '65 mounts (3 piece). OK, I tried what Dodgestang suggested and asked for '64 Falcon mounts- same answer... 2220 & 2221. So I'm fairly sure I've got the right part numbers. It's just that the bolts coming out of the rubber on the new mounts don't allow the flanges on the brackets to ride over the edge like the old ones did. This creates an uneven mating surface between motor mount and bracket.
While searching various classic Mustang vendors online, I found quite a few that call for a different part # (C3AZ-6038-H and C3AZ-6038-G). I don't think these are made by Anchor. So I ordered some of these too. I do realize another option is to replace the frame bracket on the lower tower and convert to later mounts but I'm trying to do this on a budget.
Thanks for any insight on this,
Rich
