Default Which transmission?

Last night I picked up a pickled (but dirty), but dirty 302 for my '67 body.....I'm going to go thru the 302 and that's going to take a while. In the mean time I'm going to try and find a trans in the yards around here. I don't know what I should be looking for (by name, or model it could come in). I just want a tuff 4 speed.

Suggestions?

highhilleer mentioned, "this would be a good time to install overdrive, either AOD for automatic or a T5 for manaual."

Any other? I'm not sure about the over drive, or I'm even thinking of looking for something like a lenko, but I really just want a real tuff trans.

How much do want to spend? A top loader will run you between $400 and $1000 for just the trans, a T5 swap can be done from junkyard parts, or all new pieces prices vary with how much you need to get. T56s can be swapped in but you are lookin at upwards of $3000. A lenco isnt considered a street trans, its a clutchless planetary type trans and its alot of money for that type.

Yeah, I suggest you get a T5 from a junk yard. Cheapest way to go, and you get the best of both worlds. A strong standard tranny with a 5th speed for the highway.

I am thinking about replacing the FMX which currently throw torque down range with a C4 or C6, or should I just rebuilt the FMX... I hear pros and cons from everyone I work with but none of them drive a stang

I think I'll have to look for a T5, and see what I find.....is it called by T5 or C5?
...and what's the best manual for this work?

I'm wrapping a T-5 swap into my '67 289 coupe right now. I'm using only brand new or rebuilt parts, and so far I'm in right around $3000. You could cut the costs down quite a bit, if you purchased used stuff and had access to a good swap meet. With the proper foresight and knowledge, this swap isn't too difficult. Here's another good article:

Mayh3m,

I have been rebuilding transmissions for over 40 years. I must have rebuilt 100 + C6s, but I never saw a C6 with overdrive.
