With not knowing the year of your ride or the size of the V8 you want to put in her this is a rough guess if I were to do it.

Engine - 302 $1000 - 1500

Manifold and carb $500ish

C4 Transmission between $700-1200

Front end stuff
$ about 500

Ohh yeah and our brake swap kit from Dennis for $539, (hey Dennis do I get a hat or something for the plug? )

This is buying all new parts, and doing the work yourself, as soon as you start paying someone, triple it.

sorry should have specified. I am actually looking at a 69 fastback, it has a strong running I6 and little rust. I was thinking of buying it and driving it untill i save enough to do an overhaul. the suspension i would probably have to buy new, a 302 or 351 couldnt i find one out of an older car? and a rear end, not sure, if i could find an old bronco with a 302, couldnt i use the tranny and rearend from it?

You can get the rear end out of a mid - late 70's Lincoln Versailles, Granada, Monarch, Comet, etc. Same with the engine and tranny. I would shy away from the Bronco.
Unless you are getting a really good deal on that 6 banger, I would keep looking for an 8 cylinder car, as you can see that costs a lot to convert.

9K no way....i love those body styles and id do almost anything to have one but 9k is more like a "302 with a little rust" kind of price....not a 6.

if it was like 4k....or around there....then theres something to talk about with that guy.

I am doing the I6 to v8 swap right now on a 65 and there are others on the board doig the swap.
IMO, find a clean car. If you find a v8 chances are you are going to replace most of it anyway. So my advice would be to find a clean car that is affrodable. 9k is too much. We paid less than half that for our I6 car. My biggest problem right now is finding a rear end.

I payed $3500 for a solid body with a new 302, front brakes, and some new suspension stuff too. Its a 1968 coupe. A B&M shifter too but the relase lever broke so its useless....total pain.

there IS rust....but not a lot....this type of good deal probably isnt really common but a grand or two more is average id say.
