Calling a u-joint a spider is a new one on me too. I don't think you would want to go into a parts place and ask for a spider when what you want is a u-joint.

im in college for motive power tech, we are tought that its called a spider.. i was confused when you called it a rear end yoke..

anywho there should be little grooves your retaining clip sits into

No the spider is the U joint not the rear end yoke. So what do you call a rear end yoke then? In that blow up they call it a companion flange. Now who the heck calls it a companion flange. Sounds like something from Broke Back Mountain!
