1 wheel spining
you need some type of locker, it could be either a posi,trac-lok,detroit locker, theres a lot of names for them, but expect to pay about 500-700 bucks depending on installation, gears, bearings and seals.
you could always get a detroit EZ locker if you dont have a lot of money....it just locks up the wheels except for going around corners where it disengages but apparently makes noises.....
the 9" version is $215 bucks on summitracing.com

Hey has anyone seen the kind where its like a normal rear end, but then you push a button to lock it? So far I've only seen those for off road applications, but has anyone seen one for a Stang?
I just thought it would be kinda cool that it would be a comfortable street ride until you pull up next to an import at a stoplight... then you lock your dif and burn the snot out of your tires and smoke him.[sm=gears.gif]
air lockers are for 4x4s.....so you don't have to have your front tires positively connected...and not for rear drive applications...plus you also need to have an onboard air compressor to use them which would add weight and complexity to something you only need a simply 2 or 4 clutch wheel locking device for.
You can buy the parts to make your rear dif into a locking type cheap enough, its the labor that ends up costing you, plus most people also decide to swap out the stock 2.8:1 ratio for something a little more spirited which quickly gets you up in the 700-800 price range for get parts, setup, and installed. You simply want a trak-lok unit it will perform well on the street application you seem to have.

They are right. A posi-track rear end contains clutches in the 3rd member to prevent the dreaded one tire fire. If you need help identifying one, say if you are looking for one at a junkyard or a swap meet, check the articles by Mustangs Plus in their catalog. They have an entire two page article on your exact question. I have installed one on a friend's fastback with the usual pre- and post- installation burnouts and can verify you will have both tires smoking if you put one in. Took us about a day to install one.
No, I saw one that worked like a locker, only the locking mechanism was activated by an electro-magnate that locked it. It was fully open until you hit the switch that activated the magnate which slid over to lock the dif.
