ENgine Code

i dont know if any of you remember the post a week or so ago about the crazy vacum set up with the three ports on the thermostat housing and two on the dizzy, well i got bored tonight so i went out and pulled off the starter and got the engine code.

it reads: C8AE-6015-B

5 8A8


could someone tell me what this number means exactly.

Are you sure it not C8OE instead of C8AE? If so, then it appears you have a 1968 289.

C8AE-6015-B is a 302 block from the Windsor plant that was used in 1968 on a 289. That's according to infomation found here www.classicmustang.com/casting_numbers.htm

that would be it becuz it has 302 stamped on the lifter galley.

oh, and soaring it turns out that this motor is a vintage 'stang set up and not a mid 70's 302.

Also the other 4 digits are the date code, but I'm not sure you wrote them down correctly because usually the date code is a number, letter, then one or two numbers. For example the date code on my intake manifold is 8H19 [8= manufactured 1968, H=August, 19= 19th day of the month].. 8/19/1968

Although if you disregard the '5', then the 8A8 would mean that your block was manufactured 1/8/1968. Possibly the 5 is not part of the sequence.
