My 69' Mach
I was wondering a few things about my Mach 1. I have a 1969 428CJ Mach 1 that my dad got in 1979 when he was 20 for $100 bucks off some guy, everything is there and there is no rust or anything like that, i even have the whole interior, it was removed and is in the attic of my grandparents house to keep it away from mice etc. and the car has been in the garage since 1979. It needs a new paint job etc and my dad removed many of the parts when he tried to restore it back in the 80's but with college and me being born etc he had to give up. Long story short, my dad passed the car along to me. I was just wondering about how much would it cost to get her up and running considering all the interior, front fenders, glass , new paint job, and engine needs to be re-installed. I guess the car ran last time he started it in like 85' but he removed the engine and was going to have it rebuilt (to "super CJ(?) specs") how much would this cost? Im not sure what "engine code"it has i think its an "R code" tho my dad said but im not competely sure, where would i look to check? How much do you guys think it might be worth (i will never sell it it means the world to my dad i cant believe he gave it to me!) So im new to the "old school cars" but im sure i will be back with lots of ?'s thanks guys
Post up the first 5 digits of the VIN the guys on here will tell you if it is a real 428CJ Mach. Fully restored it will be worth some money but to get it restored will cost a ton. Do you want to restore it or just getting running and driving?
I will prob be up there this weekend if not then deff next weekend, i live in buffalo and my grandparents live in rochester (which is where the car is) I want to get it up and running but i have all of the origional stuff, i dont think there would be much to do to have it up to orig condidtion, the most obvious thing would be a new paint job, but as far as the body, no rust at all and everything is there. I know for a fact that the 428CJ was the orig engine because my dad had a guy look at at prob 10 years ago.
If the 5th digit in the VIN # is an "R" or a "Q" then your car originally came with a 428 CJ. If it's an R-code, it should have the Ram Air shaker, a Q-code will have the simulated hood scoop with the turn signal indicators on it. Q-codes are very rare (why get a 428 and NOT get ram air.?!?). It sounds like it definitely is a Mach 1, but check the warranty plate, which is located on the inner portion of the driver's side door. Above "BODY" there should be '63C' printed. If so it is definitely a Mach 1.
I'm not sure what the condition is, but it doesn't sound that bad. As far as getting it back into driveable condition, the cost depends on how much you need to do. If it doesn't immediately need a new paint job, that will save you 3-7k right there. If the engine doesn't need to be rebuilt (although it probably does), there's another 3k or so saved. On the other hand, if you want to get it restored to near showroom condition, you're looking at 20k-30k, depending on where you go. Sounds like a lot, but the car will be worth much more than that in it's restored condition.

I have the shaker sticking out of the hood, so i guess dad was right about it being an "R" code. I will try to get back to u guys about the VIN if i get up there this weekend. Well i am a college student so im short on $$$ as you might imagine i will prob wait to work on it till after college or i could use my Supercherger fund toward the mach just to get it up and running. I can prob put the interior components back myself and there isnt much work to be done other than the engine as far as i can see. The paint isnt that bad but its a mint green color which IMO looks like crap, i think it would look much better red or black. BTW what do these run in the 1/4?
It's gonna have a lot of power in stock form....especially tourque. My dad had one in high school and said it was unreal. He had my 68 and the 69 mach1. He kept mine and sold the mach1. He said it had a hard time beating a lot of things off the line because of traction. He said he was going along one day and it had been raining earlier and the roads were damp. He was doing 55 and floored it and it turned around in the road.

......9F02RXXXXX so its real then right?
