i dont think im overcarbuerated, its matched up pretty well with my edelbrock intake. and besides, its not gonna cause it to back fire like i am talking.

Do a simple test if you own a heavily carburated car. Pull the dipstick and smell the oil. If you notice a fuel presence (scent) it's time to change the oil and downsize the carb. My suggestion about the water in the fuel is still my best sugestion for fixing the problem if your timing is set correctly.

I am already looking for a smaller edelbrock.

thanks alot soaring, i'll check the dipstick and change the oil i prolly have some gas wash down in the oil from the last time i flooded it out. but im sure it is because of timing. my grandfather is bringin his light over in the mornin along with a mig welder, so looks like im gonna have plunty to do in the next few days.

I was running a Holley 600 on my 302 which only has (for now) an Edelbrock intake. It was always backfiring. I'm not sure if it was too much carb or if the valve blew. I went out and purchased a NEW Edelbrock 500 (I like their carbs) and the problem is gone..

Any feed back on the edelbrock carb change? Ive been having the same problem with a '70 302, Edelbrock manifold, Holly 600 cfm carb. Idles ok, smooth acceleration unless I punch it- than it backfires through the carb. Ive tried making the mixture richer etc. Still no luck-
Also had /have stalling problems from stops when starting on an incline-
Being at least the 3rd owner- Im not sure what else has been done to the car (or when)
