I called Mustangs Plus today to place my order for the grab-a-trak super starter kit. They were out of 4 leaf standard eye so they gave me 4 1/2's for the same price. Also upgraded to the KYB shocks. Comes with the 620# coils. I mentioned the Ebay price so he gave me that price plus $40 for the KYB's. I'm hoping this setup gives me a fairly level ride and isn't too stiff.

Sorry Dean, couldn't wait.

Rich

Regardless of what you do, you're gonna love the new suspension. Hopefully this info will help you. I initially went with the 4.5 standard eye, and the top of the rear tire to bottom of the outside fender was over 2.75", yet the 620 coils are 1.25" above the same tire height. I did everything I could to seat the leafs and couldn't get it under 2.5" in the rear. The mid eyes sit at just under 1" from the top of the tire to the lip of the fender. Currently running the stock tires at 195/75R14. My objective is to keep the ratio between front and rear as similar as possible putting on 225/60R15's immediately. Given the 64-66 weighs less then a 67, but not by much your numbers will probably be less, but the ratio will probably be similar.

As for KYB's, absolutely agree they're a better shock if you stick to short runs in town, you'll need a shoe horn to get your backside outa the seat for any kinda of long haul driving though. Forgive me, us ole guys don't get around like we used to...

I can only speak for the left coast, but avg labor is $90 an hour. It took me all day to rebuild the entire front end; A-arms, coils, tie-rods, sleeves, sway bar, etc. Given the $$ saved, I'd do it again in two seconds. Take your time, save the shims and replace them in the same place on control arms to reduce the amount of time to complete a front end alignment. Use a center-type spring compressor on the coils. The hardest part is the limited room to compress the coil. Don't bother on putting the top of the spring compressor above the shock tower, as some rumors/techiques have it because this won't allow you the flexibility to move the coil around before seating it. Rear end was a piece of cake; under 2 hrs. Just make sure you have an extra set of jack stands to go with the floor jack to support the rear. One set for the car and the second set to support the rear end, floor jack for the leaf. Side note, having an extra car eliminates the pressure of being to work on Monday morning. Rule of thumb, light or no
torque until the car is back on the ground, then torgue all parts to specs.

Piece of advise, take the vehicle to a reputable front end shop for the alignment. It's getting harder to locate an "ole skool" mechanic who understands caster/camber/toe, so this is where word of mouth comes into play.

if you want to know the bottom line, probably saved $800 - 1K in labor.

Here's a pic of my car with 1" lower coils, and 1 1/2" lower reverse eye 4 1/2 leafs from Mustangs Plus in back. All sitting on 225/50/15's. Sits great, handles awesomely! Note: I rebuilt my upper control arms myself and installed zerk fittings. Have no problems with squeeks.

groho-
Why don't you want to torque things until it's back on the ground?
And what do you mean you couldn't get the springs to seat? Is there a trick to this?

Thanks,
Rich

That looks great and exactly what I needed to see. I love the way it sits. To have it sit at this height with the 15 inch rims all around, did you have to roll fenders at all? Also, what do you have for shocks?

I can't speak for him, but when I replaced my leaf springs, I tightened everything down before I put the car back down. The rubber (poly) squeaked, so I had to loosen the bolts, then tighten them when the car was on the ground again. That solved the squeaking problem.
