Default Axle bearings

Ok I am planning to try to replace my differential this weekend, and figured while I am at it, I figured I would change/replace the axle bearings since I would have the axles pulled. I read my Haynes Manual and the Ford 72 Shop maunals and both talk about having to split the retainer/bushing with a chisle then using a puller to remove the bearings and a press to put the new bearings on. I don't have the puller or a press. Are these needed, Can I do it without, should I have my mechanic do it, or should I see if he will let me use the shop and have him walk me through doing it?

Thanks

You are going to have to use a press, so either have the mechanic do it, or do it yourself. But, at any rate, you will need the press.
