Default Side Exhaust?

Does anyone here have the side exhaust mufflers? I don't remember the brand, but it forms a U out the top of the muffler to come out in front of the rear tires. I was just wondering if anyone had any info on them regarding diffrences in performance and such. Thanks

i know you can get glasspack muffler kit that comes out the side from like....mustangs unlimited or something......its like generic mufflers though....if you want, u can probably get pipes bent to come out the side with regular mufflers.

no, you would need some kind of kit for it. The mufflers stock, come out right in that spot... thats why you cant just bend them out like that. I know what you are talking about Dan, Someone has posted that on here before with pictures and everything. It's been a long time though.

The spintechs are the muffler with the same side inlet/outlet. I ended up making my own by using mandrel bends and making a "s" at the rear of the muffler and it exits in front of the tire.

What advantage do you gain by having side exhaust pipes? I have seen kits that cost over 700 bux and I just don't get it.

Not putting the pipes over the rear axle and out the back makes it easier to fit a variety of suspension setups much easier. For example a panhard bar or a watts link are often times a very difficult fit with 3 inch exhaust pipes there (a prob I have to fix with new custom pipes most likely). In addition by going out the side as apposed to dumps, you will decrease interior resonance a bit and if you are a rich runner not be staining the underside of the car all black.

Additionally, when you leave the toll booth fast...its fun to explain to the 'man' how you feel about paying $10 to drive on his bridge.

Ahh! Now it makes sense if you are adding a panhard bar or a watts link. Gets kinda tight under there, huh? Any ideas about Horsepower gains or losses by sending the gases out the side? Steeda says they actually improve by a few ponies by using their side pipes.
