Wiring madness
So I just took off the gauge panel(only speedo and fuel gauges worked) in order to start the install on my new gauges and the underdash area looks like it was hit with a tornado:

Here is a switch that I don't think does anything and has mass wires coming off of it (it is located just below the dash by the drivers vent):

More crazy wiring by the vent:

Some aftermarket gauges added by previous owner (only the oil pressure one works):

Back side of such gauges:

Here is some underhood wiring:

Wiring to the alternator:

This all looks very messy, and It is very had to tell what is part of the system, what is not and so on.
Do you think that my best course of action is to re-wire the entire vehicle? It looks like it will be better to start over from scratch with a system that I will know and not have to guess and hope like I do now.

Yeah, it looks to me like a kid put in a super duper heavy duty stereo system. The first indication is the dash cut up to accept it. God knows what that switch by the parking brake is for. I agree with you. Strip it all out and start all over with a painless harness.
