Do you guys think i could find a fresh 302 (or even a 351)shortblock in my area if i did some serious looking?

you mean with just the block, pistons, cam, etc. MAYBE. I just saw one today, looked alright. I dont know he if wanted to get rid of it though. HE also had some 351 heads, and i really want them. The valves on them were HUGE!!!

That one on craigslist is a mexican block. Is this good or bad?

Mexican block is good. More nickel in the iron and a beefier block.

YES. Thanks. Bigger is better. I think i saw something about gt heads, but i dont know what they fit on or anything. Good luck with the engine dude. i'd get the 427..... j/k, WAY TOO BIG

it would require me to remove the shocks.

yeah, the towers... etc. Extensive work would have to be done, not worth it at all.
