Default Tach mounting???

I just got a racing tach to mount on my dash, but I'm wondering how to install it. I can figure out the wiring, but I'm wondering if I need to remove the dash and/or the gauges. Any ideas??

Shoot us a picture of it. Is it one that mounts IN the dash, ON TOP of the dash, or one that you could mount on the steering column?

I think it is suposed to go on top of the steering column, but I want it on the dash. Is that possible, or should I just stick it on the column?

removing the gauge panel helps a lot. its about 7 screws and then the spedometer cable and it looks nice if you decide to mount it on the steering column and run the wires through that panel

Thanks. By the way, making your own trunk lip isn't ricing out your Stang. I say go for it, I wish I could do stuff like that!

Yeah, I think I have figured out how to mount the tach, but what should I set my max shift point at? I have a mildly modified 289: intake, holley 4brl, exhaust, cam, MSD ignition and coil, little stuff like that.

I assume you are talking about a C4 automatic. Because with a standard manual tranny you can redline it and then some. Maybe I don't understand your question, but a basically stock 289 should be shifted at no more than 4500 RPM for max performance. You run the risk of floating valves after that. Not good.

No, my bad. I just finished a T-5 swap, and I'm wondering where I should set the shift light to come on. Still 4500 rpm?

Doesn't matter which tranny actually. It's the engine you don't want to blow up, and after a certain RPM, these old engines don't give you any more HP, so you need to shift at the highest HP producing point. Start out with 4500, and if you feel you can push it a few more RPM's later, then you can always adjust. I'm sure there is some math you can do to figure out the ultimate shift point. I just ain't that smart.
