Default Rear Shock Removal?

OK I give up! Worked for 2 hrs tonight trying to get the upper mount nut off. It's threaded so far down on the shock, my 9/16 spark plug socket won't even reach it. How do I get this thing off?

Thanks,
Rich

Actually I thought the space in there was too tight so I didn't even try. I'm going to feel really stupid if I can get a box-end in there! I'll try it tomorrow.

what year car? if it's a 65-66, i know for a fact a wrench wont fit. So when you put the socket on the end of it, the stud comes through the socket hole???

It's a '65 coupe. Yes, the socket bottoms out on the stud before it reaches the nut.

If a deep socket won't work, I say lube it up with some penetrating oil and get a good grip on there with some pliers and loosen it until you can go by hand...that sucks![:@]

Grind the top of the stud off.

yeah, grind the stud off, or stick the socket on there, and see if you can just slide the end of the rachet on allittle to turn it, unless the stud sticks out past the 3/8 square part.

a deep socket worked for me. it was hard though just cause you cant see anything and your working in that little hole. took a while to get things lined up.
