CAN SOMEONE HELP ME?
Hi,
My name is Thomas and I have a question for anyone in here who could help me a second. I have a 1965 mustang, and I have a 400 C.I. in my garage. Now, I know that it will fit, but to do that, I know Id have to build up the front end. Now my question is this:
Inside the engine compartment, I realize it is of limited space. I know it would or should I say may be a pretty tight squeeze, but is it possible that I may be able to set that thing down in there? Inside the engine compartment, on the wheel wells, they stick out a short distance as you know. The shock sticks up out the top. That lil wheel well cover on the inside of the compartment should be ok I thought, or would it be? I did a guesstimate to begin with, but Im just a backyard mechanic, so My knowledge is limited. I looked at the 400, and it looks like it may be a small block. I looked at the total size of the engine, and then I looked at the space inside the engine compartment of the mustang. As far as I can think, although I havent fully checked it out as of this writing, so Thats why I said i made a "guesstimate". Anyways, the engine looks like I may be able to drop it in there, minus some space that Id normally have with a smaller engine, but it looks like i may be able to just drop that 400 right in there. Does this sound about right to anyone?
If you know, could you please PRIVATE MESSAGE me? I dont come in here too often, as I am a student. Also, I just joined two minutes ago too, so.........
Thanks

It would have to be some sort of stroker or something like that. The only 400 that for made that I know of is the 385series big blog truck engine. It's a beast and would never fit in a 65 without some major fabrication.
the only 400 i know of is the 400M......From what i've heard it's a dog like the 351M. You'd be better off building a 351W.....Parts will be easy to find and it was meant for a mustang.
A 351M is a destroked 400. My bad on what I said before...It is part of the 335 series, included 351C, 351M, and 400. The 351M and the 400 are truck engines and have a pretty tall deck heigth.

A 400M in a 65 is a bad idea. Lots of work to install a dog engine.

Due to a post in the classified for a LTD with a 400M. I did a little research on the 400m
it's bascically a modified 351c with a big block bolt pattern. it weighs close to 600 lbs [sm=jawdrop.gif] if you put a c-6 behind it , you'll be taxing a lightweight car
