Hi there, no the size of the engine does not determine if you need to use the higher octane or not. It all depends on what your compression is the higher the compression you have will determine if you need it.

Im using a 351W block from the mid 80's if i remember right...new everything cept the block...2 barrel eldelbrock intake...0 miles since it isnt in the car yet
