Ok, so it's an automatic. The tranny fluid still has to be changed.

yeah, and when you put some more in...put a piece of cardboard under neath the tranny.......this will save you from slipping on it and eating s**t like i almost did. :-D also let you know if you have leaks.....my garage is carpeted though so i couldnt see it really....if ur on cement then you can probably just mop it up i guess.....

One more question while I'm at it - and thanks to all of you for your help. What's the best way to drain the gas tank? Do I actually have to drop the tank?

Wanted to thank you all for the help. After draining the fuel tank (it did have a drain plug thank goodness) and topping off the fluids, I removed the plugs and hand cranked her a couple of times no problem. Cleaned the plugs and put them back in....she started on the 3rd try. Lots of blue smoke and really rough idling for about 15 minutes but settled down really nicely after that. On to phase II.....more to come on the rebuild and thanks again to all who helped.
Cheers,
Mike

Congrats on bringing the old girl back to life. I'm gettin ready to get a 67 coupe back to life, after new manifold and carb. Planning to start her up within the next few days.
