Default Loose shifter.

How do you tighten a shifter? Mine seems a little loose. Maybe that's just the way it is supposed to be, but it's worth asking you guys! When I lifted up the boot, there were 2 bolts holding it on (it looks like), and when I tried tightening those, no luck. They seem to be tightened all the way. Does this mean that I'm stuck with what I have until I get a new shifter?

You can get a kit from just about any Mustang vendor that you can replace the worn parts. I messed around with mine for a few years by putting rubber from an inner tube between the parts, but finally gave up and replaced the worn parts.

ADDITION: I looked in the FAQ and couldn't find it. Maybe a link?

Mine was like that too. I just ordered 2 new shifter bushings. I also had to order one new bolt. One of mine was stripped.

Yeah, those two little round guys are the culprit, but the fork gets worn too. If you are going to bother with it, just replace the entire shifter stuff with a new kit.

Get you one of these kits and you should notice a world of difference. This was the 1st repair my son did on his inline 6 and made a noticable difference. Very easy to do...

That's what I am talking about Danny. Plus, you can also get the shifter arm too. Otherwise the new kit may still not take out the buzz from the vibrations but it will certainly help.
