Default Warming-Up

If anybody knows about anything that would make my 1965 289 Mustang warm up faster i would really like to hear about it. I am thinking about replacing my transmission fluid with B&M Trick Shift Transmission Fluid which is supposed to make the engine get to operating temperature faster, but if anyone knows anything else it would help. Thanks.

I have never heard of that transmission fluid, so really can't comment on it, but I question why transmission fluid would help to warm up your engine. Most of the time the opposite is true. You want to keep the tranny fluid as cold as possible, therefore the tranny cooling system. If your choke is working properly, and you have a 180 degree thermostat, your engine will warm up as fast as it should. If you are concerned about the heater during the winter, you can get a 190 degree thermostat that will get the engine block temp up to 190 before opening. But, it is now Spring....so why do you want to get the engine warmed up faster?

Well if you let the engine warm up by idling it, its going to take forever, If you drive around after a few seconds of idle at (15mph say around the neighborhood block) it will warm up quicker. I found that if you drive 25mph for 1 min then 35mph for 2-3 min or so it should be ready to do freeway speed.

Is the heat riser hooked up on your car and the flapper in the air cleaner working? It should draw hot air off of the manifolds when it's cold and when it warms up, the flapper will close and then draw in cold air.

Yeah, that will ensure the carb choking system is working properly, which is what I think may be happening here. If the engine stumbles at start-up, then the choking system needs attention. The only recommended tranny fluid for a C4 is ATF. If you venture from there, then you are on your own, but I have never heard of any transmission fluid having the capability to warm your engine up faster.

Thanks for the comments and the only reason i posted this was because unless i let it warm up for 5-10 min. the car will die unless i punch it and then the second that i stop it it will die anyway. Thanks.

Sounds like a carb problem to me.

Yeah something like that, it maybe indirectly related to being cold but probably not related at all.
