Default Do we trust Summit's advice?

Today I called Summit Racing to further explore specific rack and pinion options. I mentioned to the fella that I had plans to create a 302 good for about 320-350HP and want to stick a T-5z behind it with 4.10 gears in the rearend. He interrupted and broke into a long sermon about how the super-duty T-5 was going to be chewed up and spit out by even 320HP. (T-5's make good boat anchors, he said...) I clarified to him that this was not going to be a race application, but he insisted that what I really need is a Tremec good for about 600 ft lbs. I'm going to have to collect everything between the engine and differential anyway. I have read volumes of posts praising the t-5 and have heard little about tremec's on this site. A little experience and wisdom is called for... was I being sold something I'll never need, or is he enlightening me? Thanks ahead of time.

The T-5 is made for street use. The 4650 is a little more durable, but not by much. If you are into racing, then consider other trannies for racing purposes. He is not leading you wrong if you are talking about racing applications.

Yeah, as with any transmission, they can be beefed up for racing purposes. My 03 Mach came from the factory with a weak Tremec. It had to be beefed up just so I was satisfied with normal street performance.
