Default rearend gears

time for me to show my newb side again. b4 i order my tranny and my new speedo gear, i want to make sure i have my car's information correct. One being, i have no idea if the diff gears are the original. I don't think so sicne the previous owner made like a million changes to it i figure thats one of the things they changed. It was originally a 3.25 standard rear axle. Now, when I turn one wheel and not the other, there is a kind of clicking sound...does that mean it has a locker? or is that normal? lol, i've never listened to a differential during a turn before. next, if they are new gears, is there a way to tell, or can i take it to a mechanic and ask them to tell me? thanks in advance guys.
