Yeah, that is true stuff. That is why a lot of us either have corrected Arms or the camber wedge. Opentracker makes a corrected uper arm, you should get the roller perches as well.

Good to know, might do this instead of the drop. Ill be driving mine quite a bit once its done, mostly the weekends though.

So I did the Shelby drop when I put in my grab-a-trak. Then when I took the car in for alignment (and other expensive mods), the alignment shop said this was a BAD IDEA (reputable classic Mustang shop in SoCal that regularly writes and contributes our "How To" articles to Mustang Monthly - that's how I found them).
Which shop did you take it to? I'm looking for a place that will be able to dial in the alignment on my '65 and I wouldn't trust most regular shops to know what they're doing with the shims. I have dropped upper control arms but they are Global West tubulars with corrected geometry for the ball joint.

Oh yeah, replacing worn out ball joints is one thing, but if they fail catastrophically ... [sm=yeahsmile.gif]

When I was a kid I dropped an improperly installed ball joint, scarry stuff, but I was going slow, if it had come out 15 min earlier, you probably would not have the "pleasure" [:@]of my company on this forum.

Stuff like that is not to be fooled with unless you are absolutly sure of the implications!!

I was under the impression that the "standard" Shelby drop was not an issue with the top ball joints and only a problem if you went more than 1" down with the arms...hence opentracker's 1.75" drop with the modified ball joint angles.

what i have found was It is possible to drop the upper control arms more than one inch, however it requires a "negative wedge kit" or aftermarket control arms. found it here http://www.geocities.com/2bav8/granada.html

I've heard simialr info regarding Shelby not continuing with the drop, however, I've heard from a number of sources that the reason he stopped doing this was purly due to cost. Ford was screwing him down and the only way for him to continue making a profit was to "drop" a few things. Not due to premature ball joint wear.
Having said that, an $18 ball joint to get rid of the annoying tyre scrub, lower by 1/2" and improve handling is still one of the best and cheapest mods possible.
Ford also wanted the cars to be more 'marketable' as the 65's were beasts to drive and they forced him to soften the 66 and again in 67, then by 68 he had sold the Cobra name to Ford and they basically ruined the car.
Sorry to offend anyone but that is just the purest in me coming to the surface.

As long as your bump stops are still in good working condition you can lower the upper control arms 1" without issues.
The upper control arm will hit the bump stop before the ball joint will go into a bind.
