I use to replace auto glass for a living. Its been awhile and I cant recall what the mustang setup looks like, but ill try to help. Im guessing from your post you are not wanting to remove the regulator, just the glass and the track that attatches to it. Is there a slot in the portion of the track that the rollers are in? If so try this: Loosen the front and rear channel guides if possible. Then roll the window up and or down untill one of the rollers lines up with the slot in the track (if there is a slot). You should be able to pull that roller out of the track through the slot. Then allow one end of the glass/track (I think it will be the front end) to dip down inside the door allowing you to slide the remaining roller out of the end of the track (it is possible there is a small flange in the end of the track that will need to be bent down (like with pliers) to allow the roller to come all the way out of it). The glass and track should then be freed up. You might want to take the felt/chrome pieces that are at the inside top off of the door to give more room. If you do this, be very careful not to break off the little metal tabs that allow it to attatch to the door. They will probably be a little rusty and brittle.

If this doesnt work, Maybe you can describe what you see in there and I can respond to it. Pics would help. Like I said, its been awhile since Ive had one apart.

Good luck

Duh, now I see the title of you post. So you do want the regulator out. Obviousle you want to get the glass and track out first to make it easier.

I think its a good idea. I still think you want to take the door glass out to put the regulater in. I can't recall if that regulator bolts in or if rivets are used. Im sure you took notice of that. Have you figured out how to make the switch yet?

BTW you will want to use a dab of grease inside the track to allow the rollers to slide/roll more easily. Friction is usually the blame for regulator failure. I would dab some grease on the reg. too.

Don't know what year model you have but we have replaced window regulator on my son's 67 coupe w/o much prob. There were 3 phillip head screws connecting the botton of the glass to the regulator. Removed the screws and unbolt the rest of the old regulator. The window didn't have to come out just make sure someone holds it or tape it up to keep it from falling into the door. Here is a link... http://www.mustangandfords.com/howto/5151/index.html
Hope this helps....

Can you reach the screws with a drill? I have a drill head that is in an "L" shape for those tight spots. Drill out the screws, tap the hole, then put in new screws after replacing the regulator.
