i'm getting my car to try and start and after putting on a different carb the engine makes a loud whistle. my friend says its from a bad gasket. could that be the only problem? mind you the gasket is actually in pieces when i put it on.

 

I have the same thing on my 70 F100. It's been that way for about 3 years now. I've just gotten used to it because I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I asked on a bunch of forums, just got the gasket problem answer. I tried new gaskets, gaskets with sealer on then, gaskets without sealer, and still no luck.

 

if the whistle sounds louder at the throut of the carb. it is a vacume leak in the carb.

 

could also be a pcv valve, or pcv valve hose. Mine started whisling the other day. The hose wasn't tight enough on the manifold.

 

What kind of carb did you install? What kind did you replace?

 

Did you say the gasket was in peices when you put it on? You can't do that. Repalce the gasket and then try it.
