A Few Questions
Ok, so..., my '66 Mustang is doing well,
But I have a few questions regarding its performance, as well as...future...performance...
First of all..., I've been wondering about this for a while now, what is the most powerful engine that one can put into a '66 Mustang? And, how much does said engine usually run for these days?
Second..., what are some causes of 'bog-down'?
In the mornings, when I fire her up and drive to school, everything's perfect. But, when I start her up again 5 hours later, she bogs down rather obviously on the drive home.
Happens everyday.
Also, is it normal for the engine to make such a rattling noise? I have an inline 6, the least powerful engine, from what I've seen, and when I 'floor it', or try to work the engine a bit, there's a loud knocking sound in the engine, as if it's working too hard. It's not exactly pleasent.
I think that's it... Well, thank you in advance.

Without a major overhaul to the engine bay, the 351 Cleveland or Windsor would be the most powerful engine you can fit in that bay. The Windsor has a lot more aftermarket parts you can get to beef it up. The knocking you are experiencing is probably what we refer to as pinging. That is when your timing is not right, and you are getting pre detonation. Sounds like you need a tune-up, and rebuild your carburetor to clear up the bogging.
Sounds like you need some basic tuning. The rattle is most likely detonation, preignition/spark knock. Try backing the timing down a bit or running a better fuel. On older engines oil can get in the combustion chamber and cause deposits that will cause detonation.
If it runs good in the morning and soggy after it warms up, well cooler air makes a difference, but also your choke may not be coming off. Once the engine is warm it will run quite badly with the choke still on, but it will have run pretty well while cold. It needs some attention, its not a modern injected engine, you have to caress and massage it every so often for it to feel good...lol.

So..., I should rebuild the carburetor and give it a tune-up?
I want to keep the body original, and I want the most powerful engine within the limitations of originality. So should I go with the Windsor?
And, just out of curiousity, which engine would be the most powerful, bay overhaul set aside? Like..., don't include the aspect of an overhaul..., or something like that... *got confused* xD

Either way, my suspension has to be replaced. It's horrible. There's also a knocking in the back when a bump is hit (not a large bump, either). Kinda sounds like the suspension knockin' against the frame.
