swap bezel/gauges
This might not be to bad. The big thing is going to be plugging the correct wire on the correct spot on the new clutter. Schematics will really help with that. I think there are some in the FAQ
Ok bubbba you ready for this? This could not be easier. For now we are going to ignore the amp meter. You have a constant voltage regulator on your 65 and that will need to be trasfered to the 66 dash. On the 65 it powers up the gas gauge and the temp gauge. Same on the 66 except on the 66 it also powers the oil pressure. So, the constant voltage regulator incoming wire is black/green. The out going wire is also black/green and will need to be split to send it to one side of the oil preasure gauge. You can split it where ever you want as long as it is on the output side of the regulator. Your gas and temp are as easy as plugging the wire into the new dash. We established that the oil preasure, gas and temp gauges all have a black/green wire from the regulator. The other side of the Gas gauge is yellow/white. The other side of the temp gauge is red/white. The other side of the oil gauge is white red and this will come from one side of the charging indicator light on the 65 dash. The colors are all the same for 65 and 66 for the gauges. You will of course have to switch all of your illumination lights, your turn signal indicator lights and your bright indicator light over to the new dash and into the correct location. That should be easy. Now slap your dash in and check everything. It should all be working except the amp meter. If you really want that ampmeter working let me know and I will figure that one out too. That will take some real wiring. I've been doing mustangs for 30 years and I have been doing wiring for the Navy as an Interior Communication Electrician for 18 years. I really do know what I'm doing in case you were wondering. I will double gaureantee this will work. Don't let it scare you it is going to be really easy. If you need more help with it let me know.
In case you don't have them, here are the instrument wiring diagrams for 65 and 66. Being a Navy SWO myself, I would have a good deal of faith that ponycoupe's plan will work. I have been saved from the wrath of the CHENG mnay times by his fellow IC's.
