im about to match my trany back up to my engine before putting the engine back in so i fill the trany with fluis and it leave it alone for a little while and trany fluid starts pooring out the tail shaft. is this because the driveshaft isnt in or do i have a major problem.

i took the trany out and didnt touch it i dont know. my dad says it is just because the driveshaft isnt because hes taken a driveshaft out before draining the trany and had it spill all over him. is that the case here?

Put the fluid in after the trans is in. No worries!

Agreed. Just wait to put the fluid in after the tranny is in.

Yeah with no driveshaft the seal wont do anything, there is nothing to seal against. Makes a huge mess doesnt it? A quart of ATF covers alot of pavement, and its the most slippery stuff you can imagine on a smooth concrete floor. Fun to clean up, I use cheap kitty litter, the stuff in the red bag that is like $2.00 a bag...

After the driveshaft is back in, put in 4 qts, then start the engine, let id idle as you pour in two more. Let the oil drain down out of the dipstick tube and check it again.
Add half quarts untill its up to the full mark, it should be okay as long as you dont try to move it before you have it full.
Let it idle for a short time before you try to move it, that way you are sure to get the line pressure up.
When you first put it in gear, dont rev the engine to get it to work, just put it in low, then in reverse, then back in low.
You should be able to tell when it starts working if you go from low to reverse.
Then you can see if it will move forward by applying some throttle.
