Default Does the 68 yrs have....

I am looking at buying a 68 to 70 Mustang rather then an 07 and was wondering do they have power steering or is it some or what's the deal with it.

Also if I would drop a bigger engine in it say 350 to 400 hp would the rears need swaped out? I am looking at a cobra crate engine from http://www.fordcobraengines.com/, not to shure on what HP it would be yet, cross the road when I get there.

Power steering was optional. If you car already has a 9 inch rearend, it won't need to be swapped. If it is the 8.8 though, you will want to swap it.

Is there any way to tell by the vin? Or something simple to tell what rear it has,if I am dealing with an Ebay seller well you know how that could go,rather then look alot will just say ya shure it has the 9.

If it has the 8 what would be the highest HP I should go?

8 inch is more round, 9 is more oval.

The bottom two bolts are a quick way to identify a 9" rear. If you can get a deep well socket on both of them, its not a 9". Even an 8" rear can take more abuse than most people think, especially with street tires. Hard core racing will break one but unless you are doing better than 1.6 60fts it will live for longer than most think.

Power steering was an option, but the 67-68s had an assist ram that tends to leak, rather than an assisted steering box like the later mustangs.

I know how to tell if I looked at it,does the id plate on the door frame have the axel code on them going back to them years 68 -70?

On the power steering question,I have seen some R&P kits with the pump included could I add one of them if it did not come with power steering?
