Default Brake light issues?

OK, so I have another head scratcher. I have an 64.5 mustang coupe, with an I6 170.

I am having some brak light issues that are driving me nuts seeing as the wiring isnt that complicated. actually now its the brake lights and the parking lights.

1st) the brake lights worked until about 6 months ago when i picked my car up from the shop, bringing it home and of course a deer in the road. Slammed on the brakes, (4 wheel drum brakes) and missed the deer, but since then, no brake lights and no parking lights.

2nd) i replaced the brake light switch after many Duh moments, if you dont know, the brake switch on an 64.5 is on the master cylinder not under the dash. and to my surprise this was in-stock at the local advanced autoparts store.

3rd) the Blinkers work on front and back, but no parking lights or brake lights.

4th) I've changed the bulbs in the front and back with new bulbs, still nothing.

I even bought an wiring diagram and still i'm stuck on stupid!

anyone have any suggestions? [sm=dontgetit.gif]

It is probably a grounding issue.

so basically, I need to get someone to step on the brakes and get a test light to the brakes to see if there is any juice getting to the sockets. are the brake lights and the parking lights on the same circuit?

A big 10-4 on getting someone to step on the brake and see if you have juice to the rear brake light. Your parking lights will come on with the first notch pull on the headlight switch.

Taillights are one circuit and the brake light and turn signals are together on a separate circuit. Tail lights and brake/turn signals use different filaments in the bulb.

If the brake light and turn signals are on the same circuits, then why do the turn signals work and the brake lights not work?

67t5ponycoupe is right. The seperating point is at the turn signal switch in the dash. If your turn signals work, but your brake lights don't, it is at or before the turn signal switch. My suggestion would be to work from B+ forward to, and including, the turn signal switch.
