Default What next?

Alright, me and my dad started restoring a 1965 coupe. It started out with a 200ci straight 6, and 3 speed. All of the body work is done except the final paint. The engine is gone, it was sold. So as of now we have a completely bare chassis except suspension. there is no interior, engine, or anything, just the rear axel, and the front wheels.

What do you think we should do next?

I would start the suspension first because that way you could "build" it to whatever engine or mods you would like.

Hmm, sounds good. I'll let my dad know, all he does is order parts, I'm the family mechanic[8D]

I am assuming you are going to go with a V8 for the motor? If so, you need to get rid of the 4 bolt front axles and drum brakes, and replace them with 5 lug and power disc brakes. Also need heavier springs and have to make a choice to keep the steering stock , or modify it with rack n pinion as many are doing these days. Rear suspension and rear end most likely need attention too.

Is there a good aftermarket setup for this? I am gonna go with a small block v8, probably a 302.

Default front brakes

to convert from Drum to Disc,you can use a set from a 1974 to 1980 Ford Granada/Monarch. This is a very common Disc conversion for Mustangs like yours and there are plenty of articles on how to do them in the Mustang magazines.
1st find a cheap donor car at a wreckers and make them a deal for both front brakes systems.
You will want all of the following;
rotors
spindles
calipers & Pads
all brake lines
Master cylinder and all lines from that

you may have to purchase a brake bias valve so you can adjust the pressure ratio from front to rear brakes because it will change with these brakes. These are sold by Mustangs Plus or CJ Pony parts.
In fact they may sell the whole kit, but ti will cost you more.
If you are changing to a V8 from a 6, you should also change the front coil sprimngs and go to a fatter front sway bar.
