VIN #
maybe the Apron was replaced once in it's lifetime??? i mean, the chances are slim, but it's still the possibilty. WHat you need to do is confront him about the two different vin numbers, and watch his attitude, and what he says.
Well I did confront him about it and he said it was wrecked in the part of the car. I had my body shop guy there and we looked at each other and grinned and thought to our self's...NOT!!! when the seller left, my body shop guy noticed something odd about that finder aprin. He notice that there was some body work INDEED done to the lower drives side cowl right where the fender, and aprin attach....He looked it some more and INDEED there was some sort of body repair over there...thats when we REALLY started to wonder....
I don't know, how could i authenticate the title?
It is sort of weird...I forgot to check the harmonic balancer on the thing but I did see that the fan was indeed the correct Hipo fan and all...I am going to see if I can't look at the title tomarrow..

ORIGINAL: 6mustang6
see? everyone just jumped to conclusions about it not being a Hipo. BUT, again, i could possibly not be. It's not hard to install the hipo fan, harmonic balencer, distributor etc.

Well I have to make an intelegent descion based on the mere fact that it could NOT be one....I just need a good solid fastabck body, which are TOUGH to find these days...
It would be nice if there was a hipo in there...aint much I could do with one though, cause you can make a 302 run better than a 289....
If I understood the original post correctly the VIN number matched exactly on the apron and the door tag EXCEPT for the engine codes of "T" and "K" . If that's the case there is no possibility whatsoever that an apron from another car was welded into this one. The last six digits are the sequence number as the car was built and there are no two of them alike in the same model years. Either the factory made a mistake ( VERY UNLIKELY ) or someone has changed something.
The title is the bottom line here. IF the title is indeed a "K" then that means something. BUT it does not mean that this car is a factory hi-po car. It means that the title and door tag came from a hi-po car but that's about it. I suspect that what you are dealing with is a built car.
Easily done and often fooling many people, unfortunately fakes have become very common. For that matter I've got two complete sets of numbers for 428 Super Cobra Jet 1969 Fairlane Cobras in my study. I've got the apron panels and the dash tags as well as the titles. before anyone asks, no they are not for sale and I have registered both of them with the Fairlane/Torino registry as destroyed. I'll never build them and neither will anyone else, but there are a lot of people out there who'd sure like to ! I personally salvaged and sent both of them to the crusher. 1 was a bench seat 4 speed ( barrel rolled many times ) and the other was a column shifted automatic ( head on into trees at high speed ).
Be very careful and get the authorities involved if you don't feel comfortable. Bottom line is that if this car is fake it needs to be exposed and removed. If it's real, 7 grand is a red hot deal and you'd better buy it !
Just my 2 cents, Dean

hmmm, i didn't realize the fact that they wer both the same except for the one letter. WELL, idk. Maybe you get lucky. if it is a hipo, sell the engine to me, since it sounds like you dont really want it
Well this is what I am going to check for on the title....it SURE was convient that the car was REPAIRED in that front aprin area. We did see where the car must have been wrecked in that very spot because of the body work that was done in that area of the cowl.
But the car DOES have a 9 inch rear end and disk brakes in the front, 4 speed tranny, aluminum front shelby wheels. The only BIG question is wheather the motor is a true Hipo or not with the "Mexcican" block, 3/8 inch rod bolts, and slotted pushrod heads...
any way I need to take it on the fact that it is NOT a hipo is this a good deal...it need New doors, New trunk floors and new rear quarters...then beed blasted all over and set in primer...
